Join Ocean Music Action for a series of performances at Carnegie Hall’s Spring Family Day. This program will feature music inspired by the beauty and magic of our natural world, drawing connections to the flora and fauna of the NYC area. Performers will include Megan Conley (harp), Shawn Conley (bass), Christina Courtin (violin, vocals), Caitlin Sullivan (cello), Alex Sopp (flute, vocals), and Maile Okamura (dance). Megan joins The Knights on Fishers Island for program featuring Kinan Azmeh, the Syrian-born clarinetist and composer. Described as the "intensely soulful virtuoso" by the NY Times, Azmeh's music combines jazz, contemporary classical, and Middle Eastern-infected rhythms and modes. This program features Azmeh's Dear Ocean, a work commissioned by Ocean Music Action. This organization draws attention to issues of ocean sustainability through music and art. Anchoring the program in the classical tradition will be Saint-Saens' poetic Fantasie for violin and harp.

Ocean Music Action’s ‘Everlasting’ program is inspired by the interconnectedness of all living things, and the evolution of this relationship over time. A quartet of musicians (Megan Conley, harp; Shawn Conley, bass; Christina Courtin, violin/vocals; and Colin Jacobsen, violin) as well as dancer Maile Okamura, perform music that honors our forests, oceans, and the creatures that depend on them.

This heartwarming comedy hits the stage just in time for Valentine’s Day when a worker falls in love with a beautiful farm owner. HOT’s production is perfectly set in present-day Hawai‘i in a quaint town outside a sugar cane farm. The fantastic ensemble cast includes soprano Natalie Image, tenor Andrew Stenson, and baritone Efrain Solis with director Maria Todaro, all making their HOT debuts. Benjamin Makino returns to conduct following the recent, triumphant run of Madame Butterfly.

Ocean Music Action presents a collaboration between Houston Symphony harpist Megan Conley, members of The Knights orchestra, composition students from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and National Geographic photographer David Liittschwager. Listeners will be immersed in the sounds and sights of the ocean, with Liittschwager’s stunning underwater photography on display in high-definition projection.
Megan performs alongside fellow Knights musicians Colin Jacobsen (violin/viola), Alex Sopp (flute), and Shawn Conley (bass), along with dancer Maile Okamura. This concert is paired with a volunteer Buffalo Bayou cleanup the following morning, Sat. April 23.
Megan performs Toru Takemitsu’s concerto Toward The Sea for alto flute, harp, and string orchestra, with the Houston Symphony, joined by Houston Symphony flutist Matthew Roitstein. This work was commissioned for the Save the Whales campaign, which helped lead to a global ban on commercial whaling. There is still work to be done to protect whales and other marine life.
